3D / 4D ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound has recently entered a new era: we now can view structures in 3-dimensions!

We now can:
1. Make two-dimensional "slices" from angles never before possible.

2. See "surface renderings" of things like babies' faces, and sometimes feet and hands. We can also see whole embryos in early pregnancy. In non-pregnant ultrasounds, 3D helps us to view the uterine cavity and on occasion ovarian cysts with better perspective.

What is 4D Ultrasound?
Previously, all 3D ultrasound machines were able to create the surface images only after obtaining the "data" and processing it with a computer after the fact.

Elite Diagnostics is proud to be the first clinic in the country to obtain the Voluson 730, a machine now sold by GE Ultrasound.

This is the first machine able to create 3D images in "real time" (hence the term 4D). Images of the unborn baby can now be seen in motion. 3D is a new technology. The true benefits are still being explored. New developments and exciting prospects are being reported daily! Our office has embraced this new technology. We are offering it to patients in the following areas:

1. During routine scanning for second trimester (and occasionally first trimester) fetuses. We are using 3D to help visualize the baby's surface anatomy.

2. We use 3D during saline contrast sonography and in the evaluation of some ovarian cysts.

3. We are also offering 3D/4D scans to patients on a self-referral basis for the purpose of enhancing parental bonding. Acquiring views of the baby may provide reassurance to parents unparalleled by other methods. We are actively studying these reassurance exams for the potential psychological benefits they may provide. Please click here to see more about these elective scans for reassurance.

We have included a gallery of some fetal pictures for your interest.
